An obsession with quality has been the hallmark of The Macallan since its founding by Alexander Reid on a plateau above the river Spey in north-east Scotland.
Both American and European oak casks are toasted within the cooperages in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It is done with lower and sustained heat to caramelise the wood which contributes to the sweet, toasted, and candy ?oss ?avours.
Our oak sourced from America and northern Spain travel down to the south of Spain to be hand crafted and sherry seasoned, before making its way to our home in Scotland.
American oak contributes lighter notes including citrus, vanilla and coconut. Whilst European oak creates distinct notes of dried fruits, spices and orange.
